A simple guide for Tail Lift Operators.
In November 2005, at the request of a group of prominent Tail Lift Repairers, the SOE chaired an open forum meeting in the North West of England.
The purpose of this meeting was to find out if there was confusion within the transport industry regarding the legal requirements for Tail Lifts and their maintenance.
This meeting was extremely well attended and included representatives from the HSE, Insurance Inspectors, Tail Lift manufacturers and parts4taillifts MD David Conman.
From this meeting it was agreed to form a working group to bring together key individuals who represent various sectors of the Transport Industry. Their goal was to clarify and form an agreement on key areas within LOLER and to publish a Tail Lift Operator user guide that was easy to read, understand and which clearly explained the operator.s responsibilities in the use, maintenance and examination of Tail Lifts.
This working group consisted of senior individuals from the following organisations: The SOE, The Health & Safety Executive, Zurich, Allianz Cornhill, SAFed, Ratcliff Palfinger, Ross & Bonnyman, The Ray Smith Group and Del Equipment. Also sat on this working group was David Conman from parts4taillifts.
After many meetings and much deliberation and debate this document has now been finalised and 50,000 copies have now been printed.
The benefits of the guide are:
- It provides clarification on Weight Testing and other key areas within LOLER.
- It is both written in plain English and is easy to read.
- It is supported & endorsed by every tail lift manufacturer represented in the UK.
- It is fully supported & endorsed by the Insurance sector.
- It is fully supported & endorsed by The Health & Safety Executive.
